Forks Road Bridge
Consultation has concluded
The Forks Road Bridge was closed to vehicular traffic on Friday, November 2, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. A full closure was necessary because of the deterioration of the structure and not being able to monitor which vehicles access the bridge.
Welland City Council and city staff understand the significance of this closure and the impact it has on the community. For a better understanding on how the Forks Road Bridge project has evolved, please review the Timeline, located to the right.
October 26, 2020 - City of Welland enters a Memorandum of Understanding with Empire Communities to design/construct the replacement of the Forks Road Bridge, and further design and build the urbanization of Forks Rd., from the Kingsway to the east limit of Forks Rd.

over 5 years agoBridges connect people to destinations and bring communities together. We want to hear your ideas on this project. What's important to you in re-building the Forks Road Bridge?Feel free to "LIKE" ideas on the board. Every "LIKE" you give highlights what is important to you.BillCurrieover 5 years agoTrain Bridge
Would it be possible to use the train bridge as a road, Add some asphalt and traffic lights and share the little used bridge with trains
3nancy tottenover 5 years agoFix the road along the seaway. Not that much to pave or stone.Only residence would use it mostly. A path behind the rowing club for locals
It is getting ridiculous like a fiction novel. Locked gates how silly ! Build a small covered pretty little bridge to restrict traffic to locals and some tourists and store customers etc. For half the cost .. It would compliment the canal for tourists. It's not meant to be a speeding shortcut, increasing traffic will destroy the tranquility of rural Dain City. Our roads will not take it as they are not kept up now . After all its not like people are rushing to get to Dain City. It will become a speeding busy road trap and then we will need new stop lights on the West side at Elm , more money . Have a look at the traffic on West side rd now. They want to avoid the lights etc. by speeding through Forks rd . For the amount of people that need to cross the bridge we don't need a 12 million dollar causeway. In 50 years our cars will probably fly across anyway .

A new permanent road could be built much faster than a new bridge, and be less costly to maintain.

Where are statistics on actual usage of that bridge, a likely 15 million dollar investment with over runs for a extremely small portion of Wellands population, does usage warrant the appropriation of this kind of money versus spreading those funds for infustructure for all of Welland, come on travel up the road to Townline road, what a HUGE waste of taxpayer money when there’s no information on the usage and it was used by trucks as a short cut to Townline road, give your heads a shake..show us the facts of prior usage , people have adjusted just like when the bridge was taken out by the boat in Port Robinson life went on. The city needs to keep 12-and more likely 15 million for appropriate infustructure needs throughout the Welland area as so much is falling apart. Port Robinson Bridge was triple the usage versus Dain City . If Dain City feels they need this short cut to or from Port Colborne, then this should be done with money from taxes from Dain City Residents, not all of Wellands taxes for such a small yes small population. Travel to Townline for ETR either way there certainly wouldn’t be overcrowding out of Dain City. Most people never taken the Dain City bridge only the small population in a Dain City for SHORT CUTS.. what’s the difference maybe 5 klm. (Gas vs Time vs inconvenience vs 12-15 a Million dollars ) Really a no brainer , NO. So for emergency services they can come past the old John deer to Dain City or the roughly 1 klm from the lights to hwy 58 to the opposite side. The bridge had its days of traffic when Union Carbide, John Deere and Stelco were places of employment, they have been gone, the requirements of needing this bridge at a cost of 12 more like 15 million will additional costs. I understand my comments are likely not welcome by residents in Dain City even though they may have a minor inconvenience they also know the costs are not proportional to the usage and requirements Perhaps Remove the structure, fill in canal with allowance of water pipes for flowing water, pave over No bridge necessary at those crazy costs and ongoing maintenance requirements, better yet go around and the city can reduce city residents 100.00 per r for 5 yrs as a incentive
0tiadeaover 5 years agoThe bridge needs to be replaced. Welland is expanding and infrastructure costs are par for the course. Don't wait, it'll cost even more.
No development without infrastructure.
